"When someone has led a life of exorbitant luxury, it is said that the lord of hell, King Enma punishes them by making them traverse the path of Gaki, hence their appearance. They're overcome with greed, leading them to devour fields, drink breweries dry, and just live according to instinct in general. Pitiable creatures, no matter how much they steal, they're never satisfied. They must be suffering terribly. If they live humbly, perhaps they'll get another chance in their next life."
